I would go for 8.

I think it is important to remember when thinking about this that while the
ultimate goal is to make the perfect lab book, that is not the goal for the
short term.  For the short term, the goal is as stated here by Cassandra, to
remove errors, make critical (with a capital C) updates, and to make the
text good enough to use with little embarassment for a few semesters.  The
longer term goal of making incredibally wonderful and perfect labs (as
though that could really happen, but you know what I mean) has to be
understood as an evolutionary process, one at a time, and coming with more
support from the publishers.

Thinking strategically, I think I can talk to george about this most
effectively.  I can probably also talk to Mildred, but it may also be good
for her to hear it from Edna and Sharona with me chiming in if necessary.
I think the will both go for it, ultimately.  It is easy to anticipate the
questions they will have.
